Networking Boot Camp
• Overall goal of networking – don’t piss anyone off
o Set expectations for students (call outcomes, response rate, etc.) (goals of networking – build relationships, build answer to “why IB” / “why this firm?”)
• Prep that must be completed before students start networking
o Resume
o LinkedIn
o Outreach email template
o Email outreach tracker
o “Tell me about yourself,” “Why IB?”
• Initial outreach
o Show students how to find people to reach out to on LinkedIn. Introduce 3rd party tools (e.g., LinkedIn Xray, Apollo.io, etc.)
o Teach students what they should include in their email (subject line, intro, connection, request to call, times, etc.)
o Stress importance of email format / spelling / grammar / concision
o General email etiquette
o Practice – students pull out their laptops and take 10 min to look at a provided LinkedIn profile, then write and send a networking email to the IBC(?) email account – we will provide feedback as possible
 Maybe students need to do this to receive the deck?
• Follow up
o Teach students how to professionally follow up with bankers who do not respond (stress importance of tracking every email
• If you get a response
o Calendar invite etiquette, what to include, title format, time expectations, etc.
• Pre-call
o How to research (LinkedIn, Google News, Wall Street Oasis, Breaking Into Wall Street industry guides, etc.
o Coming up with questions
o Practice – students write down questions for the banker the mock emailed earlier
• Post-call
o Thank you
o Follow up etiquette / strategies to keep leads warm
