For many years, the community service trip to the Ranfurly Home for Children in Nassau has become a beloved staple during the Bentley in the Bahamas trip. The Ranfurly Home for Children is an organization that has aided thousands of children since 1956. The home provides a safe and structured environment for academic and personal growth for children who have been orphaned, abused, neglected, or abandoned. To learn more about the Ranfurly Home for Children, visit https://ranfurlyhome.org/.
Unfortunately this year, in hopes to minimize covid exposure to both Bentley seniors and the children living at Ranfurly, we will not be hosting our traditional community service event. In previous years, Bentley students would take an afternoon to visit the Ranfurly Home for Children and provide volunteer work aimed to improve the conditions of the facility. Students often had the opportunity to connect with the children living at the home and spend time reading to them, playing sports, or finding other ways to be a part of their community. Past seniors have said the experience was “nothing but life changing" and "amazing to see the impact only a few hours can make on these kids". Bentley has had a longstanding relationship with the Ranfurly Home for Children in Nassau and we are so disappointed that we are unable to return this year.
In place of this year’s volunteer trip, instead we will be holding a fundraiser to raise money for this incredible organization. Seniors attending the trip will be able to purchase an exclusive Bentley in the Bahamas Class of 2022 tank top or t-shirt. Money raised from sales will be presented to the Ranfurly Home for Children during our senior trip to the Bahamas. The total cost of each purchase ($15) will be donated directly to the organization.
Sales will be open only to current Bentley in the Bahamas trip participants for the first 24 hours of sales. At 5:00 PM on May 11th, sales will open to anyone who wants to purchase a tank top or t-shirt, including anyone who would like to make any additional purchases.
Students will be able to pick up their shirts on May 12 (7am-9pm) or 13 (12-8pm) by visiting the Business Center on the third floor of the Student Center. Must show a valid form of photo ID to confirm the purchase. Students can request alternate pickup arrangements by emailing GA_SPE@bentley.edu.
