Each year for the past 25 years, the HCBE has sponsored a $1000 prize for the best essay in business ethics (broadly construed) – one to an undergraduate and one to a graduate student. The Hoffman Prize returns again in 2023!
Papers submitted for the Hoffman Prize must demonstrate academic strength and include a business ethics component. The prize committee takes a wide view of what counts as business ethics. A paper could address corporate social responsibility, corporate political activity, sustainability, organizational diversity and inclusion, conflicts of interest, ESG investing, social entrepreneurship, and more.
Papers can be in the form of an essay, short story, case analysis, research paper, or any other type of written assignment. There is no minimum or maximum page limit. A student may submit more than one paper, and any paper written during the student’s Bentley undergraduate or graduate years can be submitted.
To be eligible for the prize, applicants must be graduating in May 2023 (or walking, with no more than 2 classes to finish). The deadline to apply is March 23, 2023. Please email gsands@bentley.edu to inquire about the submission process.
