  • Food/Bake Sale

    Student organizations may receive money contributed as a gift. It is essential that these gifts are managed by the Advancement Office so they may be tracked and deposited appropriately for the student organization. AIA must also be informed of any known gifts to support the tracking of student organization revenue.

    To make a tax-deductible gift to a student organization, the gift must be sent to: Bentley University University Advancement 175 Forest Street Waltham, MA 02452-4705 Checks must be payable to Bentley University. The payee should include a note or state in memo section of the check the name of the student organization for which the gift is given. Gifts may also be given over the phone or online using the following information: • Via credit card over the phone: 1-800-532-6853 • Online at http://www.bentley.edu/givingform

  • Raffles

    A raffle is defined as selling tickets for a chance to win a prize for the purpose of raising organizational funds. It is strongly recommended that student organizations do not conduct raffles. If a student organization wishes to conduct a raffle, they must obtain a license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The organization must also file an annual report listing details of each raffle, file a tax return, and pay 5% of gross proceeds to the state lottery commission.

  • Electronic Payments

    • For the purpose of student organization fundraising, Student Programs & Engagement encourages organizations to utilize their CampusGroups page, but it is not mandatory..
    • The use of Third-Party Electronic Payment Services such as but not limited to Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, etc. are permitted.

External Donations

Organizations that wish to fundraise for non-Bentley organizations, such as charities, must abide by the Student Organization Fundraising policies below

  • The organization must submit the Student Organization Support Form and select “Fundraising/Donation Approval.” The organization’s contact information as well as their 501c3 Form, W9, and IRS Determination Letter. • The fundraising request and supporting documents will be sent to the Fundraising Committee. The Fundraising Committee shall be a cross-functional committee comprised of a representative from SP&E, Financial Operations, and Advancement, and will review applications as they are submitted. The committee will provide a decision within two weeks.
  • The Committee will review the organization’s request and decide to approve or deny the fundraising request using the following criteria: o Recipients of funds raised must have a 501(c)3 designation. o Recipients may not be politically affiliated in nature or perception. Recipients may not be higher education institutions.
    • Recipients will be reviewed for total annual contributions received.
    • Recipients that will or may compromise the University’s existing contracts or other relationships will not be allowed.
    • Recipients will be reviewed for potential related-party transaction issues.
    • If the committee approves the request, they will email the approval with information regarding next steps.
