Group Types & Categories

A Registered Student Organization (RSO) is an undergraduate student group recognized by Student Programs & Engagement that was established through the Student Government Association New Student Organization Process or through the Fraternity & Sorority Life Expansion Process. Graduate student organizations and any student groups who are managed by departments outside of SP&E are not considered Registered Student Organizations.

A cluster is a group of organizations with related missions and/or interests. The following are defined as student organization clusters at Bentley University

Academic

Organizations with direct ties to the Bentley curriculum or specific professions and strong faculty connections. Groups within this cluster have a focus on applying what is learned in the classroom to the student engagement experience.

Arts & Recreation

Organizations tied to specific extracurricular hobbies and interests.

Community Engagement

Organizations that actively work to engage with and positively impact the community they serve, whether that be the Bentley University community or beyond.

Competitive Sports

A Competitive Sport is defined as a team that requires a tryout for membership and participates in intercollegiate competition. Organizations that recreationally participate in sport and promote affinity for the sport fall within the Arts & Recreation cluster. Competitive Sports are managed by the Athletics department. Fraternity & Sorority Life

Greek-letter organizations that have a selective membership process and their governing councils.

Identity & Advocacy

Organizations that encourage exploration of the many facets of identity (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, culture), provide affinity for those who hold a common identity, and promote education around diversity & inclusion for the greater Bentley community.
